A Few Good Men

On Human events online, they have a ranking of the top 10 members of Congress who are fighting for lower taxes. (No surprise that there are no Democrats on that list) Numbers 3 and 1 are true out-of-the-box thinkers! (I highlight what they've proposed that I love). I wish I could vote for them........

3. Rep. Jeff Flake (R.-Ariz.) Sponsor of a bill to require the Congressional Budget Office to use dynamic scoring for proposed tax cuts and co-sponsor with Rep. Ron Paul of a constitutional amendment to repeal the 16th Amendment. Consistent proponent of tax cuts and opponent of spending increases.

1. Rep. Ron Paul (R.-Tex.) Co-sponsor with Rep. Jeff Flake of a constitutional amendment to repeal the 16th Amendment and end income, gift and estate taxes. Regularly pushes for tax cuts. Sponsor of bills to allow tax credits for private school tuition, to permit tax deduction of college tuition and to stop all taxation of Social Security benefits. Opposes all unconstitutional spending programs.

Repealing the 16th Amendment. Now that is some very forward thinking! It's just sad that not too many others in Congress believe in leaving more money where it belongs - in the hands of those who PRODUCE wealth!

Republican Uselessness

The following is a statement issued from Senator Bill Frist, and Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert today regarding recent immigration legislation:

"America is a nation with borders and borders matter. We are a nation of citizens and citizenship matters. We are also a nation of laws and laws matter. We have an important immigrant heritage and honoring that heritage matters. In December, the House of Representatives passed a strong border security bill aimed at securing our borders and preventing illegal immigration. However, on December 16, 2005, there were 191 House Democrats who voted to oppose House Republican efforts to reduce the crime of unlawful presence in the United States from a felony to a misdemeanor. Instead, they voted to make felons out of all of those who remain in our country illegally. While we are disappointed with the House Democrats' lack of compassion and the continued efforts by Senator Reid to block action on immigration legislation so that Congress can proceed to conference, it remains our intent to produce a strong border security bill that will not make unlawful presence in the United States a felony."

It pains me to say this, but I agree with the Democrats (Even though they don't actually believe this). It SHOULD be a felony. Why stop at lessening this crime? Why not lower Grand Theft Auto to a misdemeanor? How about Armed robbery? Even better, why not go ALL the way and not even make it a misdemeanor? That'll get the ILLEGAL vote crowd on your voting side....and even remove the stigma of them being illegal. To listen to the President and others in government, you would think they are the backbone of the economy. Instead of the World War II generation, we should start calling the illegals 'The Greatest Generation'.

These spineless, pandering Republicans are doing their best to LOSE the Conservative base. Brilliance. If they lose the House and/or Senate in the fall, it'll be because of complete nonsense like this. And Frist wants to be President? He's doing well, if he was running in Mexico.

Fall of an Icon?

Yesterday, April 11, 2006, was a major news day. Besides the normal issues of Michigan and its one-state recession, oil prices continuing to rise, and more protests against U.S. illegal immigration policy, the Detroit Free Press decided that the biggest news of the day was this:

“McCarty files for bankruptcy”

Yes. This is the banner headline in today’s newspaper. This is the most important news of the day. Not, I don’t know, Iran announcing that it has enriched uranium! The terrorist state has shown that it has the ability to develop nuclear weapons that, by most accounts, would be used against Israel, and most likely the United States. But that’s not worthy of front page status. No, you have to go to page A6 to find that story, right next to a story about a poll of college students who say that morals matter (Poll stories are useless as well, but that’s for another time). Then again, the Free Press thinks that the biggest threat to the United States is President George W. Bush and the U.S. military, not a nuclear Iran. So I guess their story placement makes sense in their incredibly left-wing bias.

But even if the frightening news of the day from Iran hadn’t happened, why is ANY news about Darren McCarty, particularly of a non-hockey nature, worthy of print outside of the sports section – or even IN the sports section for that matter? People. He’s NOT a member of the Detroit Red Wings anymore. Even when he was, he was INCREDIBLY over-rated. He was, at best, a third line winger who NEVER played his role. He would carry the puck over the line instead of giving it up to one of the greatest passers to ever play the game (Igor Larionov) and go to the net, looking for a pass. He may be a great guy, personally. I wouldn’t know – I’ve never met him. But that doesn’t make his bankruptcy newsworthy. Let’s have some perspective, please. When the Detroit Red Wings released him as part of their salary cap purge, I heard one of the biggest, most idiotic things ever on sports talk radio. It’s not as good as cutting Kordell Stewart during Black History month, because that was just hilarious. This was just dumb. A caller called McCarty a sports icon in Detroit. How awesomely stupid is that? Detroit sports icon. Right now there’s only one athlete in Detroit who that could be said about, and that is Steve Yzerman. The next closest would be Ben Wallace, and he’s still a very long ways off from that level.

Is it sad? Sure. A millionaire going bankrupt is sad, just like it is if ANYONE has to file for bankruptcy. But is it a big enough story to be a front page, above-the-fold headline? Absolutely not. But if it was a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, the Free Press would probably celebrate that fact and still demand that they pay higher taxes. The news priorities of the Detroit Free Press are just appalling.

Basement Work

It's only been four months since last I blogged. And you were sad. Or, reading it now has made you sad. Either way, welcome back.

A lot has changed since last I wrote, the biggest event of which is that Robin and I ended our nomadic lifestyle and purchased a condo. No more moving every 12 months for us!! The condo, like any purchase of a new home, needs some work. Fortunately for us, not lots, but one thing we would like to do is finish the basement. As it stands now, our basement is carpeted, but has just concrete walls. The plan is at some point to drywall, or some other means, and make it an actual functioning room (my comic book-themed room). Now here's the issue - as many of you who own homes can attest - it's costly. You've got materials, tools for the job, and labor. Nowadays however, there is a way to dramatically lower at least one of those costs. Just hire illegal immigrants! It's what our Federal Government advocates, from President Bush to both parties in the Senate. And who am I to go against what our elected officials say is best for our economy - after all, a central planned econmy always succeeds, just ask any Communist country in the 20th century. Besides, it's a job that Americans, God Bless 'Em, just don't want to do anymore.

Let's face it - it's cheap, and therefore good for the economy. It's more money in my pocket, less money in government's pocket (taxes), and I'm helping out those who just want a better standard of living - as I pay $1 an hour for their services. I figure I'll do what is done in California. I'll drive to Home Depot, find some illegals hanging out, choose who I want by saying 'You, you, and you' (I'll say it in English as I've got to maintain some American pride) and drive them to my home and put them to work. 3 illegals, maybe a 10 hour day, (I'm told that their work ethics are amazing. After all, they aren't unionized), and I'll pay them a total of $30. You know, I'll even help them out by driving them to Western Union so they can send their money back to Mexico BEFORE I take them back to Home Depot.

Isn't being a nation that doesn't bother to enforce its laws a grand thing?

Welcome to Murder Capital, U.S.A.

Even though this was a joke, this was hilarious!!!

This picture was not doctored in any way. I saw it myself on I-75 at the Eight Mile Border. Clever and ingenious cannot begin to describe it......and it's true!
